eternal homecoming

Assistant Producer

Director: Kira Muratova

Production Co.: SOTA Cinema Group

Eternal Homecoming, or as it might better be translated, “Eternal Return,” is Kira Muratova’s final film. As the title suggests, the film is much influenced by Nietzsche’s concept of eternal return or “eternal recurrence of the same”. The narrative unfolds through a casting process featuring a mix of cinema stars and amateurs. As the film seamlessly transitions from black-and-white to color, a poignant discussion between a producer and a potential investor ensues, the character of the producer is played by the film’s actual producer, Oleg Kokhan, and the stand-in director is played by Muratova’s own grandson, Anton Muratov. Muratova's unique use of refrains and exploration of aesthetic transformations bridges the gap between the past and the present, creating a layered and philosophical cinematic experience. Premiered at Rome Independent Film Festival, Rotterdam IFF, Goteborg FF, BAFICI, Seville European FF, Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival
